What is the Soque River Watershed Association?

For over twenty-six years, the SRWA has been a steward over the long-term survival of the Soque River Waterway. This work requires engagement across the community — county, municipalities, local businesses, and residents — to ensure we have the volunteers, support, and funding that equals success.
The Soque River Waterway impacts all of us, so everyone is invited to participate in this critical mission.

How SRWA Protects Water Quality

SRWA has been recognized for contributions to Habersham County by utilizing Clean Water Act grant funding and local donations to reverse river impairment areas along the Soque River.
This includes working with farmers and livestock owners to reduce high E-coli levels, replanting riparian buffers, and restoring riverbank areas critical to river integrity.

Monitoring, Safety, and Community Trails

Weekly river water testing has helped identify and eliminate toxic contamination situations, protecting local drinking water and wildlife.
SRWA also established Habersham County’s first nature trail — the Soque Greenway Trail — located just outside of Clarkesville, GA.
